Easy-access information

This website tries to explains the different types of scoliosis and scoliosis treatments in an easy to understand way. This information is drawn from the latest scientific research and where there is little research, information is provided based on the clinical experience of our team.

We aim to educate health professionals and the public about the role of conservative treatment. Traditionally scoliosis has been viewed as a surgical condition with little scope for non-surgical treatment. While surgery continues to play an important role in the management of scoliosis, it is clear that some non surgical treatments can also provide the patients with viable preventative and supportive options.

Please note, while some alternative therapies and exercise programs may claim to be able to correct scoliosis and many patients do experience relief from pain and improvment in posture, patients should always be co-managed by their GP, surgeon, scoliosis consultant or health care professional with specific and recognised training in scoliosis care and management. ScoliCare Australia will only ever recommend practitioners and treatments which are supported by research and proven results.

Treatment options

ScoliCare Australia offers a central point where patients can access advice about a range of non-surgical scoliosis treatments including evidence based rehabilitation programs such as the Scientific Exercise Approach to Scoliosis (SEAS) and Schroth physiotherapy. We can also advise patients about the most effective scoliosis bracing systems including; the SpineCor brace and the Gomez Orthotic system "Asymmetrical TLSO". Patients can be reviewed for their suitability for these conservative treatments via collaboration of health professionals, to ensure the most appropriate treatments are delivered. If you have scoliosis and would like to speak to someone about your case, fill out a contact form.

The needs of every patient are different, and a treatment that suits one patient may not be appropriate for another. ScoliCare Australia aims to help patients find the most suitable treatment.

Where conservative treatment is not appropriate, we work closely with your general practitioner and/or surgeon to ensure that the best medical care is delivered. If you are not currently under medical care, we will seek to find the best person to deal with your case. Of most importance is that scoliosis is detected as early as possible, and then managed appropriately by your health provider.
